Music Therapy in Geriatric Care Facilities
Geriatric Music Therapy is available to elderly persons in nursing homes, senior citizen's centers, adult day care settings, and assisted living facilities. Weekly groups are normally scheduled through the coordinated efforts of the activity director and the music therapist, usually in the evening before or immediately following the last meal of the day. Music therapy has been shown to significantly increase melatonin (for better sleep) and growth hormone (for fewer aches and pains) levels in as little as six weeks.
